Ruth Baldwin



Ruth received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Political Science from Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia. During her studies of environmental and political science, Ruth studied abroad researching conservation management and sea turtle populations in Bahia Magdalena, Baja, Mexico.  Ruth received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina, School of Law, in 2010. She participated in the Mock Environmental Negotiations Competition Team during her third year.  During her law school career, Ruth was one of ten students selected as a Summer Honors’ intern at the Environmental Protection Agency, Office of General Counsel, where she worked in the Water Law Division. She also completed a full semester as a law clerk for the Southern Environmental Law Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and also clerked for a federal Magistrate Judge.

Areas of Practice and Experience:

Ruth has experience in many areas of civil and criminal litigation.  Aside from her extensive environmental law focus, after graduating law school, she worked for Land Loss Prevention Project, a non-profit legal organization, representing indigent farmers and homeowners in various property law matters, including foreclosure defense, business associations, contracts, wills and estates, environmental justice and consumer protection law.  After moving to New Mexico in 2012, Ruth worked as an associate trial attorney at the Law Offices of the Public Defender in Aztec, New Mexico where she worked defending indigent defendants in juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony level cases. At Tucker, Burns & Hatfield, Ruth practices in various areas of law including, but not limited to: criminal law, family law (divorce, custody, child support), wills and estates, guardianships, contracts/business law, and landlord/tenant law. She has extensive experience in representing civil and criminal clients in all areas through motions practice, litigation, and trials, both bench and jury.
